After all the snow then the subsequent rain and thaw a few week ago, I decided to have a look at how high the river Oues had risen at nearby Cawood Bridge.
As you can see the river had caused a lot of destruction a chaos in the village, this first shot was taken from the Ferry Inn beer garden or what was left of it, 30 minutes earlier the water level was 2.5 meters higher and where I stood to take the shot would have been under water.

This shot taken with a 15mm fish eye lens shows the amount of water surging at quite a rate of Knots under the bridge this was quite a scary position to stand as you could feel the effect of the water on the bridge.
I shudder to think how long you would last if you were to fall into the icy water, I don’t think you would stand much chance against the speed of the water flow.
